ABOUT  US

THE MONROE CENTRAL/WOODSFIELD MUSIC PROGRAM

The music program at the schools in town is currently in a rebuilding stage. All interest and support in the program is greatly appreciated. If you would like to offer interest or support, please see the "CONTACT" link above to get in touch with a music director. Thanks for your support in key educational programs for our youth!
THE PURPOSE OF THIS SITE

The purpose of this site is to offer communication and information regarding the music program at Woodsfield  Campus Schools to the students, parents, and community.

What are we doing in choir this year?

I intend to have my students sing this year. What is flexible is the manner in which we will do it.

We will sing inside to the extent that health and safety will allow us to do so
We will sing outside
We will sing alone
We will sing together in small groups

We will sing together in large groups to the extent that health and safety will allow us to do so We will sing live
We will sing online
We will sing synchronously (on mute!)

We will sing asynchronously
We will sing for the joy of singing
We will sing for the health that it brings to our bodies, minds, and spirits
We will sing because we were made to be in community with one another
We will sing because singing connects us to time, place, and culture
We will sing because there is life in the music
We will sing because we
need
to sing

                                ~Dr. Greg Ramsdell, Heidelberg University

Take the above quote and replace the word "sing" with the words "play instruments."

STAFF  AND  CONTACT  INFO

CHRISTOPHER DURIGG
DIRECTOR OF 5-12 INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL MUSIC

Picture
Originally from Bucyrus, OH, Mr. Durigg grew up in a similar rural public school music program. Mr. Durigg started on piano at age 10 and trumpet at age 11. He has been involved in both instrumental and choral music continuously since his middle school years. Mr. Durigg has taken part in various instrumental and vocal ensembles at both the high school and collegiate level. He returns to his college alma mater often to perform in band and choir alumni events, and he also participates in various community ensembles. He takes great pride in his years with the New Washington Community Band, his primary influence to become a band director. Currently, Mr. Durigg performs with the Monroe Singers and the St. Mary's WV Community Concert Band.

Mr. Durigg graduated with a Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in Music Education from Heidelberg University in 2013. Hired by SOLSD/MCHS/WES in 2014, Mr. Durigg has worked hard to rebuild the instrumental and vocal music program. His band and choir have been consistently performing December and May concerts since 2015. Although the band has been performing at sporting events for a few years now, 2020 is an exciting time! This fall saw the second full season of the Marching Seminoles since 2012. Mr. Durigg is very enthusiastic about the band/choir program here at MCHS/WES, and any students/parents who wish to participate in serious, meaningful group music making are encouraged to check out what the band/choir program has to offer.

Mr. Durigg resides in Woodsfield with his wife, Alexandra, and his dogs, Bailey and Riley.
